The 16th Annual Ellen Curry Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Monday, August 13, 2012, at the Lake Shore Country Club, 5950 Lake Shore Drive, Erie, Pennsylvania.

The tournament is the sole yearly fundraiser for the Curry Foundation, which sponsors scholarships for public housing children.

Check-in for the event will be at noon and the shotgun start will be at 1 p.m.

Dinner will be at 6 p.m., and at 7 p.m., a sports auction and grand prize raffle will be held. The cost is $125 per golfer. Reservations can be made by calling 452-2425.

In 2011, the tournament raised $34,106 for the Foundation’s Scholarship fund.

Since 1998, the Ellen Curry Foundation has awarded 100 scholarships to public housing children to attend parochial elementary schools. The total value of the scholarships awarded is more than $358,214.

This year, 18 children will be able to attend parochial schools by virtue of their selection for a Curry scholarship.

Another five students will receive college scholarships. Five Louis J. Tullio College Scholarships of $1,000 each were awarded to five students.

Ellen Curry served on the Housing Authority of the City of Erie Board for 29 years, until her death on December 15, 1996. She was instrumental in shaping the many successful programs of the Authority.

Before her death, Ellen established a foundation for the education of youth who live in housing managed by the Erie Housing Authority.

Major sponsors for the 2012 tournament are the Curry Foundation, Marquette Savings Bank, and Waste Management. Honorary co-chairs are Joseph Sinnott, Mayor, City of Erie; Michael Edwards, CEO, Marquette Savings Bank; and, Rich Carniewski, Senior District Manager, Waste Management.
