The Erie Housing Authority continues its free summer lunch program this year because, as Executive Director John E. Horan says, "It's the right thing to do."

For at least the past 14 years, the Authority has provided nutritious, well balanced-meals as part of its summer lunch programs at the John F. Kennedy Center, YMCA Kids Clubs, and the Bird Drive and Agnes R. Priscaro public housing developments.

The free lunches are provided to more than 150 children daily.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture pays for the food while th Authority provides the sites and staffing for the free lunches, which are held, rain or shine, Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"We know, through our lunch program, that our young residents are, for sure, getting at least one nutritious meal a day," Horan said.
