The Erie Housing Authority has allocated $10,212,692 for capital improvements to its properties, having awarded the contracts for these properties in June, July, and August.

The improvements include:

  • C. Ted Dombrowski Apartments, East 15th between Ash and Parade Streets -- replacement in 33 apartments of exterior siding, installation of new heating and air conditioning systems, and the replacement of the gas service line into the buildings.
  • 2120B Gladstone Court – replacement of a building lost in a fire there in November, 2010;
  • Friendship Apartments -- replacement of the heating system at Friendship Apartments on 11th and French Street. This system has been in place since 1983 and is 28 years old;
  • Scattered Sites – replacement of 26 driveway aprons and 24 driveways;
  • Harbor Homes -- Siding replacement, interior water lines, signage, playground improvement, and security cameras.
  • Lake City Dwellings -- Construction of a maintenance garage at Lake City Dwellings;
  • Erie Heights -- Modernization, including new windows, heating and cooling systems, showers, and bathroom renovations;

"'It’s About People' is indeed our motto, but people need decent, affordable housing, so in this case, 'It’s About Buildings' as well," said John E. Horan, executive director of the Housing Authority of the City of Erie.
