Fourteen adult mentors from the C.O.P.P.S. Program, the Housing Authority Inter-Agency Team, and HACE staffers recently accompanied 24 youngsters from the YMCA Kids Clubs (JEHGA and Erie Heights) and the John F. Kennedy Center to Cook's Forest State Park.

The trip was made Tuesday May 17 for an all-day adventure in the woods.

Activities included hiking, crossing the creek on a log, climbing a fire tower and exploring caves.

Members of the Pennsylvania Fish Commission were stocking the stream with trout and letting the youths see exactly what they do.

Fishermen in the area let the kids fish with them and experience the skills required to catch fish.

At the end of the day the participants were treated to a grilled lunch and dinner.

Once called "The Black Forest," the area is famous for its stands of old-growth forest.
