Seven young Erie Housing Authority residents attended the 46th Annual Charity Sports Banquet on February 10 at the Bel-Aire Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, 2800 West Eighth Street.




Attending the banquet were, from left, Jerry Butler, retired wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills; Marcus Bernard, Cleveland Browns defensive lineman; Amine Abouabid; Vaqarrie McQueen; Slobodon Markovic; Brianna Ford; Avery Kirsey; Ethan Vaughn; Rueben Ahtyba, Cleveland Browns defensive end; Hasim Abo-Zebiba; Mike Furrey, wide receiver/safety for the Cleveland Browns; and John Horan.

This year’s banquet was held to benefit the John Kanzius Cancer Foundation.

Among the featured speakers were Jerry Butler, retired wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills; Marcus Bernard, Cleveland Browns defensive lineman; Rueben Ahtyba, Cleveland Browns defensive end; and Mike Furrey, wide receiver/safety for the Cleveland Browns. Furrey was a finalist for the National Football League’s Walter Payton Award given out annually to the player who gives back to his community in the form of community service.

All three of the Cleveland Brown players visited the Authority's table and spent time individually and as a group talking to HACE youths about how to succeeed and overcome obstacles.
