Erie and HACE have made quite an impression on directors of housing Authorities in Northwestern Pennsylvania.

Directors at their Victorian Princess luncheon.

For the first time since July, 2003, Erie and the Erie Housing Authority hosted the monthly meeting of the Western Pennsylvania Housing Directors Association.

The gathering, representing 37 authorities in Northwestern Pennsylvania was held on July 28, at the Sheraton Erie Bayfront Hotel, with a luncheon and tour of Presque Isle Bay held on the Victorian Princess stern-wheeler.

After the event, Sue A. Straw, executive director of the Clearfield County Housing Authority, wrote to HACE, “The hotel was the nicest of any conference, meeting, seminar, or workshop that has ever been offered. The speakers gave great information, and I don’t think there was one person in attendance that didn’t learn something new. And the luncheon was fabulous. I can’t believe that conferences aren’t held in Erie on a regular basis. I don’t know who makes these decisions, but they need to do a little research in Erie. It should be standard. We always go to Harrisburg in February. Why can’t we come to Erie in June or September?”

Straw said she had never been to Erie before but that she now intends to come back, after seeing the city and its waterfront, for a more in-depth tour of the city and a look at Presque Isle.
