Seven Housing Authority youth from the Erie Heights/Pineview and John E. Horan Garden Apartments YMCA Kids Clubs attended the 45th Annual Charity Sports Banquet on February 12 at the Bel-Aire Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, 2800 W. Eighth St.

Those attending the banquet were, from left, Keishawn Wentz, Dajon Heidleberg, Kala Straub, Lavenger Ollie, Pitt Panthers fullback Conredge Collins, Anthony Kirksey, Jacob Thompson and Steven Alexander. Shown on our Home Page rotating photo is Anthony Kirksey with Collins at an autograph signing.

The featured speaker was Terry Hanratty, former Notre Dame University and Pittsburgh Steeler's Quarterback.

Hanratty, now 61 and living in Connecticut, was a stockbroker in his post-football life.

He was a three-year starter at quarterback and a two-time All-American at Notre Dame, helping the Irish win the 1966 national championship. In 1969, the Steelers drafted Hanratty in the second round with the 30th overall pick. He spent eight years in the NFL (1969-76) and was a backup quarterback on the Steelers' first two Super Bowl championship teams. Hanratty was selected in the 1976 expansion draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and served as the backup to Steve Spurrier during an 0-14 season.

Also attending and serving as an example for HACE kids was
Conredge Collins, a three-year starter as fullback for the University of Pittsburgh. Collins is an Economics major highly praised for his blocking and projected as one of the higher-round fullbacks in the 2009 NFL draft.
