On Tuesday, January 20th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents of the Erie Housing Authority’s four buildings for senior citizens gathered to watch the inauguration of Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States, on six-foot TV screens at inauguration parties in each building’s community rooms.

The Authority rented the jumbo television screens for the occasion and Erie Cablevision provided the hookups for free, said Authority Executive Director John E. Horan.

“Every inauguration is historic, but this inauguration is particularly historic because this is the first black president in the history of America, taking the oath of office in a TV event for all Americans that will have the largest television audience in the history of our country,” Horan said, explaining why he held the inaguration parties..

“We want to make sure all of our senior residents have the opportunity not only to watch the event, but to gather together to be a part of it. It is probably something they never expected to see in their lifetimes.”
