The Erie Housing Authority, as part of its sponsorship of the Erie Playhouse Youth Theatre Program, provided tickets to 50 youths from Erie Heights, Pineview and the John E. Horan Garden Apartments to a Saturday, March 29 showing of "Around the World in 80 Days."

Staffers from the YMCA Kids Clubs accompanied the young HACE residents, many of whom had never seen live theater before. Thirteen of the HACE youths in attendance are shown above with the costumed actors from the play. Several of the 50 youths attending participate in the YMCA Theatre Program.

Adapted from the novel by Jules Verne, Around the World in 80 Days, delightfully tells the story of Phileas Fogg’s and his servant, Passepartout’s, whistle-stop journey, as they try to satisfy a wager that they can circumnavigate the world in eighty days.

HACE youths marveled as the punctilious Mr. Fogg made his way by sea, rail, ele-
phant and land yacht, pursued by a dogged detective and aided by an ever-increasing retinue of hilariously colorful characters.

In the end did Fogg emerge victorious? Or did he discover that there are more impor-
tant things in life than winning a bet?

The play gave our youths plenty to see and think about.
