Fifty youths and adult mentors participated in the Housing Authority's 10th Annual Learn to Fish Program on June 22-24.
The young people involved spent two afternoons learning the importance of the "Safety, Manners, Appreciate, Release and Teach" (SMART)Fishing Program, which stressed safety and fishing etiquette.
They also learned about the equipment used for fishing; learned how to cast; and participated in a clean water education program.
On the third day the young participants all went to Presque Isle State Park for a fishing day with adult mentors.
That day ended with a grilled picnic dinner prepared by the mentors -- walleye, perch, venison, fried zucchini and cheese, and fresh-cut homemade French fries.
All of the program graduates received a Certificate of Completion as well as Youth Zebco fishing poles and tackle sets.
The Sons of Lake Erie provided Fishing Information.
