New Girl Scouts from Harbor Homes and the John E. Horan Garden Apartments recently had a “pinning ceremony” at the Erie Housing Authority’s Central office.

Authority Executive Director John E. Horan placed the Girl Scout pin on 15 girls attending grades 2 through 6.  Also participating with the awarding of the pins were senior Girl Scout leaders Tamara Johnson, Hannah Nothum, and Sabrina Tolbert.

All the girls present recited the Girl Scout Law:

“I will do my best to be

Honest and fair,

Friendly and helpful,

Considerate and caring,

Courageous and strong, and

Responsible for what I say and do.”

The ceremony, also known as an investiture ceremony, officially welcomes the children into the Girl Scout family,  making them Girl Scouts.

The pin is placed upside-down – once each girl does her first good deed, it can be turned right-side up.

Jennifer Domowicz, Membership Manager, Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania, moderated the event.
