The Housing Authority of the City of Erie has been placed on the honor roll of companies which have distinguished themselves with five consecutive years of increased campaign contributions to the United Way of Erie County.
The Authority received a plaque to commemorate this honor.
Because this United Way recognition award started five years ago -- and the Authority was a winner then -- this actually marks 10 years of increased campaign contributions.
"This is my 14th year here, and we have come to use Mr. John Horan (executive director of the Erie Housing Authority) and HACE as the gold standard of United Way Campaigns. We hold him and the Authority in very high regard for the Authority's high rate of employee participation and the fact that the Authority's contribution increases every year," said R.J. Zonna, United Way Senior vice president.
"We look at the Housing Authority as more of a partner in what the United Way is trying to do to build a stronger community than as just another company trying to run a United Way campaign," Zonna said.
He said that with an average of 700 participants annually in the United Way campaign, "The Erie Housing Authority always ranks in the top 1 percent, with 100 percent employee participation most years."
Zonna gave credit to the Authority's campaign success to Horan, HACE employees, and to Vera Logvina-Sizov, the HACE employee who volunteers her time to run the United Way campaign for the Housing Authority.
The Authority was one out of only 14 winners of the United Way Honor Roll plaque in 2013.
