Lori Metalonis from the Erie County Library is retiring July 10th. Miss Lori which is what all the kids call her has been the staff person assigned to the two Housing Authority on-site mini libraries since 2003. She has worked tirelessly to bring reading programs and increase access to books for public housing youth. She has developed on-site reading programs for daycare and HeadStart children, reading camps and reading challenges for school-age youth. She has participated in multiple new book giveaways and organized the very popular Therapy Dog Reading Program for public housing youth. Miss Lori and in many cases her husband were fixtures at public housing events extolling the importance of reading and making sure that any child who attended received a free book.

Miss Lori will be missed by the residents and Housing Authority staff. She made a real difference in HACE neighborhoods and with the children she interacted with on a daily basis.

Happy Retirement Lori!
