Lisa Kasbee, below, second from left, a HACE housing specialist, recently attended a meet and greet at the HANDS Freedom Square Apartments with Major General Weller, Deputy Adjutant General for Veterans Affairs.

Weller spoke on services available for veterans and barriers faced by those those helping veterans. He supervises the administration of state veterans programs and the operation of the Commonwealth’s six state veterans’ homes (the Erie Soldiers’ and Sailors’ being one of those). Kasbee participated in a discussion of services needed for veterans.  The Freedom Square Apartments and Goodrich House are both veteran housing, owned and operated by HANDS.  Several of the occupants of these properties are veterans receiving benefits through the HUD-VASH Program, a joint effort between the Erie VA and HACE. While attending,  Kasbee had the opportunity to meet Major General Weller, above, far right, and Erie Mayor Joe Schember second from right.  Michael Wehrer, far left, from the Erie VA Medical Center, is also shown.
