This story on our COPPS unit aired on WJET-TV yesterday, September 25, 2017:

"A special unit within the Erie Police Department is recognized for its efforts in engaging with the community.  Today, the City of Erie Housing Authority presented a National Award of Merit to the Erie Police Department's Quebec Unit.

The Quebec Unit's primary function is to patrol all areas owned and operated by the Housing Authority.  The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials honored the Quebec Unit with the 2017 Award for its Community Engagement Initiative.

Corporal Tom Covatto of the Erie Police Department tells us, "we have a calendar with a reading program and we will read to the kids and take time during our shifts, if we can, to meet with the kids and the seniors and everyone in between".

The Quebec Unit started in 1997."
